ELIGIBILITY
We cater for all type of talent, however, there are some basic rules regarding the content of your application and how the show works, that are important to know.
HOW IT RUNS
The Discover Talent Competition run in various formats dependant on the Local Council, Shopping Centre or Corporate Entity running the event. In general – the event is a multiple-day event with Auditions, Heats, Quarter Finals, Semi Finals, and Grand Final held later that evening. Some of these events may run over 2 days with heats held prior to the Grand Final.
Discover Talent accepts Singers, Bands, Musicians, Dancers, Dance Troupes, Comedians, DJs, Rappers and anyone else with talent.
VISA REQUIERMENTS
You must be legally present in Australia, with the unrestricted right to study/work in Australian. You may be asked for documentation or proof.
HOW TO ENTER
1. Complete the online application form, and make sure to include all information required.
2. If successful, submit your backing track in MP3 Format.
3. Gather friends and family to support you during your competition journey.
SCORING SYSTEM
Judges will score you from the following criteria.
• Presentation • Performance • Creativity • Engagement • Skills & Technique
AUDIENCE VOTE
Audience votes or “people’s choice” – will also be one of the judging criteria. Competitors can gain points from the number of audience that attend to support them (they will be asked upon arrival as well as voting for people’s choice).
HOW TO CLAIM YOUR PRIZE
Contact details will be emailed to you shortly after the competition Grand Final. Prizes are subject to time-availability or bound to specific dates of delivery if the prizes include professional services. Cash prizes are primarily aimed for non-music performers; however, all winners will have the option to exchange their recording packages for the following cash prize: Au $2,000 for 1st place; Au$1,000 for 2nd place; Au$500 For 3rd place. Once you’ve opted for a cash prize, all other prices are no longer valid. Prizes are not interchangeable.
AGE CATEGORIES
• Junior division: 6-12 Years
• Teen division: 13-19 Years
• Adult division: 20 years and over
Each act will be placed into a category based on their age at the date of the event.
All applicants younger than eighteen (18) years of age must have all parents/legal guardians complete the Parental/Legal Guardian Consent and must be accompanied by an authorised guarding at all times during the process.
PERFOMANCE CONTENT
Performances shall contain no rude or offensive language, no nudity, nor harassment or bullying of any type. Act that involve dangerous activities such as dangerous stunts, use of fire or harm to animals will also not be accepted.
ONLINE APPLICATION
Your application video must be no longer than 2.5 minutes and showcase the type of performance you will be doing.
PERFORMANCE DURATION
Auditions – Each act will be required to prepare one live performance (max 2.5 minutes). After all acts have performed, the event will conclude. The acts will receive notification via email that evening if they made it to the next round of the competition.
Heats, Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Grand Final – each act is required to perform one performance (max 2.5 minutes) this can be the same as the act performed in the previous stages but it is advised to prepare and perform a second act. Acts moving forward to the next stages will be announced at the end of each event. Winners in all divisions will be announced at the end of the Grand Final.
The Discover Talent Competition may vary from State to State and the prize pool will be dependant on local sponsors. All event details and prizes will be given to contestants prior to the events.
BACKING
Contestants are able to:
• Use backing tracks sent via Email prior to the event and a copy in a
USB only (No iPads, iPhones, CDs, or any other devices). Please only bring tracks that are either in MP3 or Wav formats (no video files or backing vocals).
• Accompany themselves on keyboard, guitar or other instrument.
• Bring along someone to accompany them on keyboard or guitar.
• Bands with more than 2 instruments will need to coordinate their act with our production team prior to the event, keeping in mind there won’t be too much time to soundcheck or bump in entire band rigs. The Discover Talent Competition reserves the right to restrict the number of instruments on stage per act.
JUDGING
The Discover Talent Comp provides a positive and constructive performance environment for artists of all ages and experience. All acts will be judged on a range of criteria specific to each talent event. All contestants will be eligible for optional private or public feedback on their individual performances.
Please be aware that all contestants may be filmed and photographed during the event. By agreeing to the Terms and
Conditions of this event you give the organisers permission to use your image across all forms of media. Please let a member of our team if you do not wish your photographs or footage to be used.
